The frogs education

The main purpose with the education is to raise the frog’s consciousness and intelligence level, and to make them aware of their own potential to change their living conditions.  

Even if we can’t be sure what information best suits the frog’s needs I have made some assumption based on what I think is most relevant for them. Frogs are considered to be very threatened specie all over the world. One major reason is because their natural wetland habitats have disappeared with modern farming and the growth of cities, the few wetlands left are often close to roads, where traffic kills a lot of frogs trying to cross them. Frogs are also very vulnerable to pollution, especially polluted water. Because of this a lot of their education is focused on different ways to build dams, move water and water purification, as well as how to build tunnels to get under roads that cross their path.

Aside from this life saving knowledge, they get courses in human behavior, human economics, how to build windmills and waterwheels to produce power, art, music and philosophy. They also study learning theory as my students are supposed to teach other frogs, in short subject that might become useful later on in their evolution.

A very important element of their education is to invite other people to take part in the education. Thats one reason why I make exhibitions, its a good way to make sure people come, and when they do they have the opportunity to leave a message to the frogs.

I also invite other people to help me with the education. Both for the exhibition in St. John and in Vetlanda Lukas Nystrand composed music for the frogs. I have also invited a linguist to help me, just to mention two.  


Method

Frogs use a variety of sounds for communication; they have different calls for mating, territorial marking as well as different warning sounds, to mention some. Hence I’ve chosen to use sound as the main education method.  

All lectures are recorded either by me or taken from audio books.  In this way the frogs can listen to the lectures over and over again, and learn in their own tempo.  To make it easier for them to understand, the lectures is also played back through a filter that modulates the sound with their own croaks. The modulation filter works in real time, and is applied to the messages the audience leaves for the frogs as well.

For more complex thing as water wheels, pumps and other constructions the frogs have access to models that they can examine as well as material to build their own constructions.

In the future I consider to use films and other visual methods in the education, I am also investigation other methods suitable.
